Viable IT Strategy
From small to large scales, businesses and their IT-organisations regularly decide on how to utilize next generation IT. Some to leverage a strategy – some to develop an entire new strategy. Far too often, evaluation of new technologies pay little attention to the fact that transition costs can be affected by the current organisation’s ability to adopt and support a set of IT-systems.
Projects can include a due diligence of the current IT-system landscape to evaluate the state and assess how new technology can support the strategy. In co-adapt, we focus our analysis on factors like organisational maturity and the ability to maintain and support the current system landscape. The evaluations of new technologies take into account general market maturity, accessibility of skilled workforce, access to vendor support, and evaluation of the appetite for risk vs the aspirations to be the first runner within a specific technology.
As with other strategic initiatives, clear metrics should guide the implementation. These are telltales to check to which degree the application of new technology supports the business. Key metrics also evaluate the IT-organisation’s success rate in delivering a stable service beyond the initial implementation.
